For more than six years Meli-Melo Creperie & Juice Bar creatively gives back to the community through art sales. Friends of Autistic People (FAP) will receive a percentage of proceeds from art sales at the Greenwich Avenue restaurant now through Sept. 1. Meli-Melo has partnered with artists and involved local nonprofits since the expansion on Greenwich Avenue in 2010. Black and white photography by Danielle O’Brien were chosen to decorate the colorful creperie walls and benefit the Greenwich-based organization that has existed since 1997. FAP works with families and legislators toward the goal of ensuring that adults with autism receive mandated services that enable them to lead better lives and secure their futures.
FAP founder Brita Darany von Regensburg formed the organization to help families navigate the system, and advocate for and intervene on behalf of their children with autism. “I’m a long time customer at Meli-Melo and absolutely love the food. I have a long history of partnering with businesses in town and am honored to be involved with such a creative program and artist. Danielle’s photography is truly magical and she has a great eye for detail”, said Regensburg.
Danielle O’Brien is a native of Rockland County and presently chasing her passion for the peculiar, off the beaten path, once in a lifetime moments through her photographs. O’Brien is a self-taught photographer, her background is in biology and her career has been focused on working in laboratories as well as the consumer products industry. Several years ago she decided to take up photography as a hobby. What was initially going to be a fun hobby turned into a full-blown passion.
