The Greenwich Police Department has announced an arrest after investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident on April 17.
Shortly after 11 p.m. that night, Edward Setterberg of Cos Cob was struck and killed by a car at the intersection of East Putnam Avenue and Hillside Road. Members of the Greenwich Police Department soon found the offending vehicle in town, and seized it after obtaining a search warrant from the State Superior Court in Stamford.
The investigation, which included 39 separate search warrants and examination of a significant amount of physical evidence, identified the driver as a 17-year-old male from Greenwich, police reported. (As a matter of policy, the Sentinel does not name those charged with crimes. That information can be found elsewhere.)
After careful deliberation with the State’s Attorney for Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk, a warrant was sought for the juvenile for the charge of evading responsibility following involvement in an incident that results in a fatality (Connecticut General Statute Section 14-224a).
The Greenwich Police Department made the arrest yesterday—Thursday—and said the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult for the felony charge, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.
The young man was released after posting a court set bond of $100,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on June 2.
The department commented in a press release, “The Greenwich Police Department would like to acknowledge the family and friends of Mr. Setterberg for their support and patience as we systematically conducted a very comprehensive investigation that has brought us to this point. This case continues to be actively investigated and additional charges may be forthcoming. Further information will be released as it is deemed appropriate.”
