The Old Greenwich-Riverside Community Center (OGRCC) is calling all Greenwich families who love to bike and enjoy watching amazing bike stunts to join them for the 14th Annual Family Bike Fest on Sunday, May 15 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The gathering comes together at the Old Greenwich Elementary School, and families can choose from the traditional six-mile ride to and around Tod’s Point, and the one-mile Kid’s Ride, and/or the beginners kick bike ride. Or simply come to enjoy the cycling festivities on-site.
Back again for a second year in a row is pro-stunt champion Mike Steidley doing his BMX stunt bike shows. The show will commence around 9 a.m. prior to kicking off the bike ride. Get ready for some awesome stunts and entertainment for the entire community.
The OGRCC also seeks to enhance bike safety. “With the local bike shops coming out to help they are making sure everyone has a safe and well-tuned bike and helmet and that Greenwich Safe Cycling continues to educate everyone about sharing the road and respecting traffic rules,” said David Rafferty, OGRCC board member. He also shared that the OGRCC took over the original Mother’s Day Bike Ride from Greenwich Safe Cycling in 2013 “to bring greater awareness of the event to the community. To appeal to the broader community, the OGRCC has now changed the original theme from a Mother’s Day Bike Ride to a Family Bike Fest!”
“In past years,” said Rafferty, “up to 300 people took part in the event, and with everything we have going on this year we expect 2016 to be the biggest year ever.” The event grows every year and has expanded to include a Cycling and Fitness Expo. There will be free yoga, pilates, and other exercise activities for attendees.
Tickets are on sale at myogrcc.org. Family tickets are $25 and individual adult tickets $10, and kids (under 12) $5. All proceeds from this event support the Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center scholarship fund and Greenwich Safe Cycling.
