Brunswick Lacrosse Falls in Conference Opener 13-10

The Brunswick School lacrosse team saw an early 4-0 lead disappear against Deerfield, as the Bruins dropped a 13-10 New England West 1 Conference decision on the road on Saturday.

In the conference-opener for both schools, Brunswick (2-1, 0-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Junior Alex Buckanavage netted the first two goals, while senior Reilly Walsh and sophomore Xander Dickson followed with solo tallies for the 4-0 advantage.

Deerfield (1-0, 1-0) scored the final goal of the first quarter, while opening the second quarter with another goal, cutting the Brunswick lead to 4-2.

Later in the second, sophomore Griffin Gelinas made it a 5-2 Brunswick advantage after collecting a pass from Walsh, netting his first of two goals in the game.

Deerfield closed out the first half with a 4-1 run, tying the contest at six apiece at the break. 

Buckanavage scored Brunswick’s lone goal during the Deerfield run.

The teams exchanged goals three times to begin the third quarter, as Walsh netted two more goals, while Gelinas also scored to counter the three Deerfield tallies.

Deerfield capped the third quarter with two goals, taking a 11-9 lead into the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, Deerfield earned some breathing room, scoring two more goals for a 13-9 lead. Buckanavage capped the day’s scoring with his fourth goal of the day, for the 13-10 final.

Goalie Jack Stephenson finished the day with nine goals, while Ben Shapiro took home eight faceoff victories. Harrison Caponiti added two and Max Fuld finished with one.
