Donald A. Hartmann of Greenwich passed away on March 22 at Greenwich Hospital from complications of ALS. He was 76 years old.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1939 to Andrew and Ethel Hartmann in Stamford. Donald grew up in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in the early 1960’s.

On Aug. 29, 1964 he married Judith Kalinski, and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Donald worked for the Greenwich Board of Education as an electronics supervisor; he retired in 1998.

Donald was a longtime softball coach at Greenwich High School and Rye Country Day School, and was a member of the Greenwich Umpires Association. Donald was also a high school field hockey referee in Westchester and Fairfield counties. He was an avid amateur radio operator since he was a teenager.

Donald was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Church.

He was predeceased by his daughter Linda. He is survived by his wife, Judith, his daughter Patricia (John) Mould, his grandson John Mould, his brother David Hartmann of Mt. Holly, Vt., a niece, Amy Lienhard, and a nephew, Jason Hartmann.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd No. 3, Greenwich. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 84 Sherwood Ave., Greenwich. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North St., Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, one may make donations to St. Paul’s Church.
