Obituary: John Kaczmarski

John ‘Yosh’ Kaczmarski of Greenwich passed away on Monday, Jan. 25, after a brief illness. He was 75 years old.

John, known as Yosh, was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on Nov. 9, 1940 to Steffi and Walter Kaczmarski. After graduating from Port Chester High School in 1959, Yosh enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a motor sergeant. Most of his working years were in the automotive industry. He later worked in the medical equipment field.

Yosh was a talented amateur photographer. He had an abiding love Doo-wop music and its bass-to-tenor harmonies, and a deep knowledge of Doo-wop singers and the labels on which they recorded. He was also interested in questions of justice, particularly surrounding unsolved local crimes. Yosh was known for youthful manner and his gentle and generous nature.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joseph. Surviving him are his wife, Joan Yusko Kaczmarski, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
