Greenwich High School hosted their annual SummerFare expo Wednesday night, drawing crowds of parents and their kids eager to learn the possibilities available to them this summer.

Put on by the Greenwich High School PTA for the 27th year in a row, the event drew over 100 local, regional and international summer camps and programs showing off what they have to offer for summer programs, sports camps, academic camps, travel camps and more.

“It’s a far cry from your old definition of  ‘camp’,” said PTA Co-chair Lu Ann Schiff. “We invited the 15 public schools, ranging from elementary to high school, and also the nine private schools were invited to come join us. The opportunities range from science camps to engineering camps to arts camps.”

Equipped with their own booth and representatives on hand, camps gave students a first-hand look at what is available to them during the summer — from local Greenwich Crew summer rowing programs, to sports camps in Maine and Vermont, to travel abroad opportunities offered outside the country.

Camps present included iD Tech, Frost Valley YMCA, Riverside School of Music, Roaring Brook Camp, Bridgton Sports Camp and many, many more.

“We don’t want people to come here, grab a brochure and leave. This is the time to do it. If you wait until May or June, there won’t be a spot in camp for your child. It’s an accelerated pace.”

Local summer camp sign ups begin April 1 (with an early bird special available for residents) and more information is available at the Greenwich Parks and Recreation website.

Kamp Kairphree and Greenwich Summer Adventurers will once again be available for kids ages 5-12 and 8-15, respectively.
