

The Greenwich High School gymnastics team started the season, and ended 2015, in grand fashion Wednesday afternoon, hosting Staples High School and coming away with the 144.35-126.55 victory.

During the meet, held at the Greenwich YWCA, Big Red had a plethora of stellar performances. None better than Adnerys DeJesus, who finished with the top all-around score of 38.15.
She took first on the vault with a 9.4 and wasn’t to be denied on the bars and beam, as she dominated the events with a score of 9.6 on each. She rounded her performance with a 9.55 on floor exercise.
Not to be outdone was Kelsey Fedorko, as she finished second overall with a combined score of 36.1. She took second in floor exercise with a score of 9.1 and the silver in beam with a 9.3. Fedorko also finished third in the vault with a 9.0 and fourth on bars with a 8.7.
Grabbing the bronze in the all-around was Jessica Freiheit. Highlighting her performance was her career best on beam, placing third with a score of 9.1. She also took second on vault with a score of 9.2 and third on floor with a 8.5.
Other GHS athletes fared well Wednesday afternoon as well.
Gianna Cardini was stellar on the bars, finishing second on the day with a score of 8.9. Fiona Brock finished in the top five on two events. Competing on bars, she took home third on the day with a score of 8.8. She also competed on the beam and took home fourth on the day with a 8.65. Her sister Aisling Brock competed on the floor exercise and ended the day fourth with an 8.5.
With the win, the Cardinals moved to 1-0 on the season and will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 5.
