President of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce Marcia O’Kane says she was walking down Greenwich Avenue a few years ago and noticed something special.

“It struck me that women are owning, running, or managing businesses on the Avenue, and what has the Chamber done for this business segment?,” said O’Kane.

And that’s when the Women Who Matter Luncheon was created. It celebrates the work of successful local women, and this year Nancy Armstrong was the guest speaker.

“Nancy is amazing. She produced the ‘Makers’ series,” said O’Kane.

“‘Makers’ is the largest collection of ground breaking women’s stories ever resembled. So many of our Makers have said in one way or another, ‘If she can see it, she can be it’. We want to create a storytelling revolution that will not only flood the market place with stories of role models from a ll walks of life, but will most importantly engage, inspire and activate the next generation of young women and girls,” said Armstrong.

Armstrong says events like this helps to celebrate all women.

“It’s not just about one of us, it’s about all of us. It’s about supporting each other and talking about things we need to shed a light on in order to move forward,” said Armstrong.
