The first of four school start time forum sis being held inside Western Middle School. Superintendent Dr. William McKersie presented the options for a later school start time, and parents and members of the community voiced their opinions on the issue.

The high school currently starts at 7:30 and the middle school bell rings at 7:45.

A panel including Boys and Girls Club President Bobby Walker Jr. and Greenwich High School Athletic Director Gus Lindine has narrowed down start time changes to six options. They are…

1. Switching elementary school and high school start times, and possibly switching the middle school start time

2. Start the entire district 30 minutes later,

3. A flexible start time at the high school,

4. Just make the high school start time later and keep all others the same,

5. Have a delayed opening one day a week at GHS,

6. Keep things the way they are right now and maintain current start times.

Members of the panel want community input before making a recommendation to Dr. McKersie, who says a new start time could possibly be implemented for the 2016-2017 school year.

Parents who spoke at the forum supported the idea of a later first bell, but were concerned about how it will be financed.
