Antonio Elso Fantin, of Greenwich, died Oct. 3 at the age of 82, just two months after the death of his beloved wife, Josephine Carlucci Fantin. Before that heartbreaking loss, he had suffered with debilitating health issues for many years.
Born in Villotta di Chions, Italy, on March 9, 1933 to Emilio Fantin and Emilia Facchin, Antonio was an old-world mason. In 1951 he came to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, where he met the love of his life, “Jo,” a Greenwich resident. Married for 59 years, they built a life together in Chickahominy and Riverside.
Known to all as “Tony,” he was a generous man who offered his time and talents to family, friends, and the community. Not only a master at his craft and a jack-of-all-trades, he also loved to cook for others and garden. Many enjoyed the fruits of his labor, and it made him happy to share. He was not a man of many words, but his kind actions spoke volumes.
Antonio is survived by his three children, David Fantin (Robin), Michael Fantin, and Nancy Fantin, as well as his grandchildren, Garrett and Ariana Fantin. He is also survived by his siblings, Ada, Aldo, Ida, Bruno, and Remigio. He was predeceased by Sergio, and, earlier this year, by Lidia.
Family and friends gathered to honor both Antonio and Josephine Fantin on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial was held yesterday at St Roch’s Church, followed by entombment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Greenwich Hospital or St. Roch’s would be appreciated.
