Audubon Connecticut designated the Butterfly Garden and Greenwich Community Garden on Hamilton Avenue as one of eight Urban Oasis in the state. Green Fingers Garden Club dedicated the Butterfly Garden in May 2013 “to the children who study and live at Armstrong Court.” An urban oasis provides a healthier habitat for wildlife and people.

This designation is specifically for a high-quality area to provide rest and food for migratory songbirds all along the Atlantic migratory flyway, focusing on urban areas and other landscapes where there is limited quality habitat. Other birds and pollinating insects such as butterflies and bees benefit as well. The garden is planted with plants native to this area.
