The Greenwich Police Department is reporting a trend of burglaries, where the suspects are entering homes from second story porches and balconies.

“The thing about a second story entrance, is typically these are not a crime of opportunity. This means this person has really thought about how they are going to get into your home, knowing most people don’t lock a second story door,” said Lt. Kraig Gray.

Public Information Officer Lt. Kraig Gray says people should know these break ins are not crimes against people.

“They are looking for indications no one is home- newspapers stacked up, no lights on,” said Gray.

The police department suggests taking important steps to keep your house safe if you do have a second story porch and balcony.

“Keep the door locked, if they have an alarm system on. Be wary that it is a potential entry into your home,” said Gray.

Lt. Gray says residents should call the police if they see any suspicious activity in their neighborhood.
