A four acre piece of historic land located at 370 Round Hill Road was donated to the Greenwich Land Trust in 2012. After years of renovations, the Louise Mueller Preserve is now the Greenwich Land Trust’s new home.

“We are all feeling great. The staff is thrilled to have this facility. It’s a wonderful opportunity for us to move ahead with land conservation,
“ said Executive Director Ginny Gwynn.

The Mueller’s owned the property for 25 years before giving it to the Land Trust. Before that, the property was part of “The Orchards”, one of the Great Estates of Greenwich.

“The Great Estate House is still a little south of here, and this property was a actually the farming part for he Great Estate,” said Gwynn.

All of the buildings on the property are from the 19th century and the landscape includes woodlands, wetlands, and meadows.

“By having woodlands here, we can point out to people different native trees. We can also point out how beautiful a meadow can be with native plants, grasses, and wildflowers. And then, we are going to restore the wetlands because it is an important ecosystem,” said Gwynn.

The Land Trust protects over 745 acres of land in town, and this piece of land will house the non-profit’s employee offices.

“Before we had this place, we had a very small office. As a result of having this house, we’ve been able to vastly expand the number of volunteers we have,” said Gwynn.

The Land Trust even had a group of 14 high school student volunteers and three interns working over the summer. For more information, visit www.gltrust.org.
