Have you ever wondered who painted the work of art behind the teller at the bank?
Wednesday evening, the community had the opportunity to meet two artist who are decorating the walls of the First Bank of Greenwich this Fall.
“It is not my usual setting. It’s not an art gallery but people who come here are very interested in art,” said Marco Gallotta, one of the featured artist at the bank.
The First Bank of Greenwich hosted the artist reception to give members of the community an up close look at local art.
Frank Gaudio, President and CEO of the First Bank of Greenwich said, “At first we did it because there was no paintings on the wall. None. It was kind of boring and depressing and I didn’t like working like that. So we found a way to fill the walls with art and help the community at the same time.
“We feature local artists and local musicians and it is great to be able to sponsor them, ” Gaudio added. ” They get to show their work and then their work stays here for a month or so and the customers get to see the work and it is great.
Greenwich native Michael Spezzano said being able to showcase his work in his hometown is always exciting.
“I just paint to fool around. I took up art really at the senior center and all of a sudden, I did a few pictures and now I have almost a hundred. And then they start buying them and I said ‘I don’t believe this!’ said Spezzano.
“It makes me so happy. For someone to come here and say ‘Oh I like this picture. I reminds me of a vacation I took’ and then buy it and have someone take it home, it is really gratifying.
Marco Gallotta has showcased his work at the bank before.
“I think it’s great. What they do is they bring people together. It’s not just about business all the time. It is also about getting people together for a different reason and I think it is a great idea,” said Gallotta.
“It’s a lot for a small bank but I want to  keep it here because this is where we live and this is where the artist live and we enjoy this,”added Gaudio.
