According to Greenwich Police, a Greenwich High School football player was on his way to Cardinal Stadium this morning around 6:30 when he was involved in an accident.

The student was riding his bike on East Putnam Avenue and collided with the door of a box truck as he attempted to cross the notoriously busy road.

“He was not wearing his helmet, and he did suffer a concussion and a collapsed lung. He underwent surgery at Stamford Hospital after being transported by the Greenwich EMS,” said Lt. Kraig Gray.

Police report he is in stable condition and his family has been notified. The police department’s traffic section is still investigating the crash.
