Drivers might want to give themselves a little extra time when driving on one of Greenwich’s busiest roads, as repaving a 1.14-mile stretch of Route 1 will take place starting Sept. 1.

According to the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation, they will start milling and resurfacing the just over one mile stretch of Route 1, located from Indian Field Road to the Stamford city line, on Sept. 1.

The entire project is estimated to be completed on Sept. 25, however the Connecticut DOT said that modifications or extensions may be necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.

The milling will take place from Sept. 1 to Sept. 15, with the resurfacing starting immediately after the milling concludes.

The timing of the majority of the project will take place starting in the evening and last until the early morning. The regular work schedule for the project will start around 7:30 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. from Sunday night through Friday morning and from 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 1 from Indian Field Road to the Stamford line. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zones.

The project is included in the Department of Transportation’s 2015 Vendor Resurfacing Program.
