Our Common Purpose: Reinventing American Democracy in the 21st Century

January 13, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

On the heels of the 2020 election, the LWV Greenwich and Greenwich Library invite you to join us on Wednesday, January 13th at 5:30 pm for a fascinating discussion about strengthening confidence in American democracy – “Our Common Purpose: Reinventing American Democracy in the 21st Century.”

Two years ago, under the auspices of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship was formed to study “how best to respond to the weaknesses and vulnerabilities in our political and civic life”. To inform their report, Commission members interviewed a broad and diverse group of Americans in listening sessions in 47 cities and towns across the country.

The Commission’s report includes six strategies and 31 ambitious recommendations to help the nation emerge as a more resilient democracy by 2026, the nation’s 250th birthday. This will be the focus of our program.

Presenters include:
Stephen Heintz: President and CEO, Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Co-Chair, Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship
Dr. Norman J. Ornstein: Resident Scholar, American Enterprise Institute and Member, Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship
