Greenwich Founders’ Day Reception

Greenwich Historical Society is partnering with Greenwich Point Conservancy for the town’s July 18 Greenwich Founders’ Day reception, which will take place at the Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point Park at 10 a.m. All are invited to celebrate the founding of Greenwich with a reading of the original July 18, 1640 deed and announcement of the winners of the “This Place Matters!” Photo Contest. Following the program, guests will be able to tour the Feake-Ferris House, the oldest house in Greenwich and one of the oldest in America, via shuttles and tours organized by the Greenwich Point Conservancy. Restored Feake-Ferris House to be Unveiled at Founder’s Day Reception

Greenwich Historical Society and Greenwich Point Conservancy announced that the newly restored Feake-Ferris House (c1645-1689) will be the site of the July 18 Founder’s Day reception to announce the winners of the Historical Society’s “This Place Matters!” photo contest. Attendees at the reception will be among the first to tour the restored home, the earliest part of which was erected in 1645 by Greenwich founders Elizabeth and Robert Feake. read more...

Greenwich Preservation Month, Photo Contest

Greenwich Historical Society announced that May will be designated “Greenwich Preservation Month: This Place Matters!” for the second consecutive year. Inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s initiative to drive preservation at the local level, the promotion and companion photo contest kicked off at the Historical Society’s Landmarks Recognition reception on April 29 when Greenwich First Selectman Peter J. ‘This Place Matters!’ Winners to be Announced

The Greenwich Historical Society will announce the winners of the “This Place Matters!” photography contest at a reception beginning at 10 a.m. on Founders Day, Tuesday, July 18, at Innis Arden Cottage, Greenwich Point Park. After the reception, weather permitting, there will be a Greenwich Founders’ Day Walk out to the Bluff where a bronze replica of the original July 18, 1640 deed is mounted on a boulder overlooking Long Island Sound.
