The Greenwich Sentinel Foundation

Vision
To cultivate a shared pride, affection, and sense of belonging among the people of Greenwich—uniting residents through mutual respect and engagement in a vibrant, connected community.

Mission
The Greenwich Sentinel Community Foundation is dedicated to strengthening community bonds in Greenwich by fostering mutual respect, support, and understanding among its residents.

We believe that a strong community nurtures happier, more connected individuals, encourages public service, and produces leaders who carry the values of their hometown into the broader world.

Through collective effort, we aim to uplift one another, enhance Greenwich’s potential for good, and instill enduring civic values in the next generation.

Methods

Daily Community Email: “5 Things To Do in Greenwich Today”
This widely-read daily email connects residents with local happenings and community resources. Maintaining its quality and responsiveness is a full-time effort. Operational costs total approximately $74,000 annually.

Support for Local Charities
When individuals and organizations have no other outlet, they often turn to us. Many local charities lack the resources to publicize their missions. In the past year alone, the Foundation provided over $100,000 in free advertising and publicity support to amplify their work and expand their reach.

Greenwich Community Calendar
A centralized, accurate, and up-to-date calendar is essential for nonprofits, event organizers, and civic groups. You will find our Community Calendar published each week in the pages of the Sentinel which costs $104,000 to research and print each year.

Free Obituaries
Obituaries should never be a financial burden. While other publications may charge up to $700 for a standard obituary, we offer this vital service at no cost—honoring lives lived and ensuring every family has the opportunity to commemorate their loved ones.

Sentinel Award
The Greenwich Sentinel Foundation bestows the annual Sentinel Award to individuals whose quiet leadership and sustained effort exemplify civic responsibility. Organized each June, the event honors residents who have “led by lifting others” and made impactful, behind‑the‑scenes contributions. The Sentinel Award has celebrated figures such as Police Chief Jim Heavey (2016), Rev. Dr. James Lemler (2017), Susan Wohlforth (2018), James McArdle (2019), Pamela Pagnani (2020), Stephanie Dunn Ashley (2021), Bob Capazzo (2022), Frank J. Gaudio (2023), Stephen Walko (2024), and Joe Kelly (2025). The reception and recorgnition engages the community in recognizing unwavering dedication to service and sets an example of hard work and leadership.
