The Old Connecticut Game of Wicket: More Than Just a Game

April 6, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$15 – $20
wicket-game

In the years before baseball became America’s favorite national pastime, sports enthusiasts played a variety of other bat and ball games. Connecticut residents preferred wicket, a primitive form of English cricket that evolved into baseball. Historian and author Alex Dubois will examine surviving evidence of wicket play in eighteenth-century America before tracing the game’s fascinating history in Connecticut and New York.
A regular contributor to Connecticut Explored, Dubois has been the Curator of Collections for the Litchfield Historical Society since 2015. He has a BA in European History from Stonehill College and a MA in History Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program.
