November 17, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
FreeThe Nantucket Project (TNP) Library provides a second home for curious people to hear stories, attend screenings, readings and hear leaders speak throughout the year in an intimate setting.
On Thursday, Nov. 17, the TNP library presents a film screening of the documentary We Live in Public, followed by an interview with it’s subject Josh Harris. The question of the evening is: Do we have any privacy left? We Live in Public is a 2009 Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary a documentary by acclaimed director Ondi Timoner. Timoner documented Harris’ tumultuous life for more than a decade, to create a riveting cautionary tale of what to expect as the virtual world inevitably takes control of our lives.
The event is Free, but an RSVP is required.
Josh Harris, often called the “Warhol of the Web” through the infamous dot.com boom of the 1990’s, founded Pseudo.com, the first Internet television network and created his vision of the future, an underground bunker in NYC where 100 people lived together on camera for 30 days over the millennium. He proved how in the not-so-distant future of life online, we will willingly trade our privacy for the connection and recognition we all deeply desire. Harris will join via Skype to share highlights of the film and discuss the price we pay for living in public.
