Lecture on cancer treatment

Cancer is something that touches the lives of all of us and an upcoming lecture at the Perrot Memorial Library in Old Greenwich will highlight advances on treating prostate cancer.

On April 10, at 7 p.m., the Perrot Library will host renowned global oncologist Dr.Steven Larson to talk about radioactive drugs that are known as “smart bombs” and can successfully diagnose and treat prostate cancer. Dr. Larson is considered one of the most important pioneering figures in the field of nuclear medicine and is from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

There will also be a presentation from Greenwich resident Barbara Hertz, whose father Dr. Saul Hertz was the originator of the first targeted cancer therapy in 1941 and was a pioneer in the medical use of radioactive iodine, which remains the gold standard of targeted precision oncology today. Many in our community have been the beneficiaries of Dr. Hertz’ s targeted therapy.
