Science Lecture @ The Bruce Museum- Getting Blood from a Stone: Animation, X-rays, and Dinosaur Tracks

April 18, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$15

Science Lecture. Getting Blood from a Stone: Animation, X-rays, and Dinosaur Tracks
Dr. Stephen Gatesby, Professor of Biology and Medical Science, Brown University.
In 1836, Amherst College professor Edward Hitchcock published a controversial description of “stony bird tracks” from the valley of the Connecticut River. Although today we  know that such footprints were made by dinosaurs—Eubrontes is now the state fossil—paleontologists still study tracks much the way Hitchcock did. In a talk spanning 180 years, from Greenfield to Greenland and back again, Professor Gatesy will describe his innovative research using living birds, X-ray imaging, and computer animation to explore the origins of dinosaur track diversity.
Free to Museum members. $15 non-members. Open galleries and refreshments at 6:30 pm, lecture at 7:00 pm. Reservations: 203-413-6757 or science@brucemuseum.org
