Lecture: “LIGO: Gravitational Waves Discovered!”

May 15, 2016 @ 3:30 pm

In February, it was announced that the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) was able to “listen in” on the moments before a black hole binary system (two black holes orbiting one another) merged as one, producing a gravitational wave signal. Jason Kendall, Professor of Astronomy at William Paterson University, will discuss this important event and why it “will open up a new field of discovery.”
Admission is free to museum members and ticket holders; others by donation to the museum.
