“How Young Elected Officials are impacting the U.S.”

March 10, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Remember Harold Stassen? Governor of Minnesota by the age of 31, the Republican Convention keynote
address speaker by 33, Minnesota “favorite son” Presidential candidate by 41 and every 4 years thereafter for what seemed like the next 150 years, Stassen exemplified youthful political energy. He is not alone. Paul Ryan was a U.S.Congressman by the age of 28, JFK by 30 and Joe Biden a U.S. Senator by 30. Why do they run, why do they jump the line, what challenges do they face and overcome, and how does their age influence their views? Are they exceptionally bright, ambitious or lucky, or some combination of the three?

John Celock has written about such men and women in “The Next Generation: Young Elected Officials and Their Impact on American Politics.” A graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, he is an award-winning journalist who has covered politics from town halls to the U.S. Capitol. He is the president of the Celock Media Group, a communications consulting firm focused on content creation, communication strategy and social media, and is the editor of the Celock Report, which deals with politics “on the ground” around the country. His writing has influenced legislation in multiple states and his communications consulting has included projects focused on economic growth.
