Friends Friday Films: My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes

There’s no longer-lived or better-known program associated with Greenwich Library than the Friends Friday Film Series, now 69 years old. The screening of the day is My Italian Secret: The Forgotten Heroes (2015, directed by Oren Jacoby). Isabella Rossellini narrates an unfolding story of gentiles who helped Jews who sought refuge in Northern Italy after the German occupation in 1943 during the Second World War. It provides a primer on Italy’s complicated history with the Holocaust and the Italian resistance. Particularly singled out are the quiet courageous deeds of Tour De France champion Gino Bartali. Friends Friday Films are open to all at no charge through the support of the Friends of Greenwich Library.
