Friends Friday Films: Amy

There’s no longer-lived or better-known program associated with Greenwich Library than the Friends Friday Film Series, now 69 years old. The screening of the day is Amy (2015, directed by Asif Kapadia). The film follows pop singer Amy Winehouse from her heady steady climb to success followed by a dizzying downward spiral and death at age 27 from alcohol poisoning. There’s plenty of blame to go around but in the end Tony Bennett placed her among the ranks of Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin. Friends Friday Films are open to all at no charge through the support of the Friends of Greenwich Library.
