Changing Earth, Changing Climate
– Moderator: Allison Walsh
– Speaker: Laura Bozzi, Ph.D., Director of Programs at the Yale University Climate Change and Health Initiative
Connecticut’s climate is changing. The state has warmed two to three degrees (F) in the last century. Throughout the northeastern United States, spring is arriving earlier and bringing more precipitation, in shorter, stronger, and more frequent storms and summers are hotter and drier. Sea level is rising, and severe storms increasingly cause floods that damage property and infrastructure. In the coming decades, changing the climate is likely to further increase flooding, harm ecosystems, disrupt farming, and increase some risks to human health. In her presentation, Dr. Bozzi tracks 19 indicators related to climate change and health in Connecticut related to the impacts of climate change and impacts caused by the drivers of climate change.
