Battle of Heroes

For the first time, Greenwich police and firefighters are teaming up with Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich to hold a Battle of Heroes competition. Greenwich police will team up with Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich’s Torch Club, while Greenwich firefighters will work with BGCG’s Keystone Club in an afternoon of kickball, tug of war and obstacle games.

Everyone is invited to cheer on their favorite team. The event will feature local food trucks, a live band, arts & crafts, face painting and various emergency vehicles to explore.

While the event is free and open to the public, community members are encouraged to support their favorite team by making a donation online. Funds raised will go toward travel and registration expenses for the Torch and Keystone Club’s annual conferences.

The Keystone Club is a national Boys & Girls Club leadership program for teens. Keystone Clubs are chartered small group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 14-18, which provide opportunities to participate in regional and national conferences. Keystone members elect officers, and plan and implement their own activities in six areas:

• Service to Club and Community
  Character Development
  Leadership
  Unity
  Free Enterprise
  Social Recreation

The Torch Club is a chartered small-group leadership and service club for boys and girls ages 11-13. Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps the Club staff meet the needs of younger adolescents. Torch Club members elect officers, and work together to plan and implement activities based on four criteria:

• Service to Club and community
• Education
• Health and fitness
• Social recreation
