The Stamford Police Association (SPA), announces its endorsement of Ryan Fazio (Republican), in the August special election for the state senate, to represent the 36th district comprising Stamford, New Canaan and Greenwich.  The special election will take place on Tuesday, August 17.

Mr. Fazio is a member of the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting.  He spent most of his career as a renewable energy and agriculture professional working in Stamford. He was raised in Greenwich and is a long-time active volunteer in the community.

The candidate has pledged his support for a pro-public safety agenda and to advocate for better means to fight increasing regional crime and illegal guns on our street that is leading to an increase in shootings across many communities.  He has also pledged his opposition to the transfer of state and community-focused law enforcement budgets for non-public safety-related purposes.

SPA President Kris Engstrand said, “Anytime there is an opportunity to support pro-police and pro-public safety candidates, it is vital that we stand with them.  Today, the Stamford Police Association is happy to endorse Ryan Fazio. He believes strongly that Stamford’s status as one of America’s safest large cities, is good for our community, good for its residents, and very important to attract business.  Look around and the evolution of Stamford is bright, attracting new families young and old, to be a part of our diverse city community.”

Mr. Fazio said, “For many years Stamford has grown, it has thrived, and it has attracted business of all types, specifically because it has been recognized as one of the safest cities in the entire country.  This is specifically because the city has invested in a high-caliber, highly professional police force. These men and women have always made sure the city and the community’s interests are priority number one. I’m so honored to receive the endorsement of the Stamford Police Association in my run for state Senate.”

The candidate says he would also seek to overturn or significantly modify the 2020 Connecticut Police Reform Act (H.B. 6004), which burdens law enforcement, with increased, counter-productive personal legal liability.  The law was passed through Hartford with no input from law enforcement and scant input from constituents in Lower Fairfield County.

As a pro-police candidate, who is committed to upholding the law, and equipping officers with the resources that are desperately needed to keep our communities safe, the Association is proud to endorse Republican Ryan Fazio for the State Senate special election.
