Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport may just be the perfect spring break destination for families and teenagers. Visitors will enjoy an array of animals from sea otters to Amur tigers and leopards. And right now the zoo is also hosting a 500-piece art show called DAZZLE: A Garden of Glass by glass artist Peter Greenwood. Greenwood’s work has been shown in twenty-five museums, including Greenwich’s own Bruce Museum and the Louvre Museum in Paris. If people are looking for a weekend or spring break day-trip, the Beardsley Zoo is the way to go.
They have just announced that members will no longer need to make reservations to visit the Zoo. Members may visit 7 days a week, anytime from 9 am to 4 pm, and stay as long as they would like.
Visiting the zoo is also a great way to support the research and conservation of endangered species, specifically the ones it houses. Through its participation in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan, or SSP, the Beardsley Zoo specializes in highly successful breeding and conservation programs; supporting around 25 Species Survival Plans, including one for Mexican Wolves which were, until recently, extinct in the wild.
For guests visiting during spring break, there are a lot of exhibits open. Animals such as anteaters, big cats, and birds of prey have ‘choice in access,’ meaning they can choose to be outside or inside within their habitats. In the warmer weather, you’re going to see them all.
