Obituary: Mary Bawol

Mary A. (Marie) Bawol passed away on March 1 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Liverpool, England to Cyril and Mary Alice Starkey on March 24, 1937. She was a proud Englishwoman who became a proud American citizen.

In 1956 she met and married Stanley Bawol, an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marines and the love of her life.

After moving to the US, they eventually settled in Cos Cob, CT. where they raised their three children. A devoted mother, she is fondly remembered for their family vacations, summers at Todd’s Point and her love of gardening and animals. After raising her family, she became a nurse finding her passion working with the elderly. She was equally as passionate in the women’s rights movement.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley, grandson Steven Starkey Bawol and brother John Starkey. She is survived by her children Steven and his wife Veronique of Paris France, Alison and Bill Cotter, Mark of Stamford, CT and her grandchildren Matthew, Colin and his wife Shakira, Caitlin and her husband Matthew Brennan, Laura and Charlotte, her cousin Rita Smith of Liverpool, England as well as several nieces and nephews both in the US and England.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 13 at St. Catherine’s Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside.
