Forget “Adult Milkshakes” and Try and White Russian

Surprisingly easy to make despite it’s sophisticated name, the White Russian is a decadent and sweet drink Combining vodka, Kahlúa and cream and serving it on the rocks creates a decadent alternative to adult milkshakes.

The White Russian came about in the 1960s when some genius added a bit of cream to the Black Russian, rendering it white. While neither drink is Russian in origin, the name refers to the vodka in the drink, a spirit often associated with Russia.

The White Russian lived in relative anonymity until the movie The Big Lebowski revitalized its reputation. The Dude (Jeff Bridges’ character) sips on it constantly through the movie.

When making a White Russian at home, choose a decent Russian vodka (to stay in theme) and a good heavy cream. Half-and-half can work in a pinch, but milk will produce a thin drink. We’re aiming for decadence here.

2 ounces vodka
1 ounce Kahlúa
1 splash heavy cream

Add the vodka and Kahlúa to a rocks glass filled with ice.
Top with the heavy cream and stir.
