The Greenwich Academy field hockey team battled cross-town rival Convent of the Sacred Heart and came away with the 5-0 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Gators got the ball rolling when Whitney Balanoff took the pass from Olivia LeSueur off a corner opportunity and found the back of the net with 20:49 to play in the first half.
Around seven minutes later, Caroline Keller scored to add to the lead. With 5:59 remaining in the half, Tatiana Viola took the pass from LeSueur and gave Greenwich Academy the 3-0 halftime lead.
With 16:16 to play in the half, Karina Schulz scored the unassisted goal to start the second and Viola rounded out the scoring when she took the pass from LeSueur with 14:02 to play and buried the shot.
Greenwich Academy goalie Maggie Reville finished the game with one save.
“They had some really great players on the team,” Greenwich Academy head coach Jamie Brower said. “They had really nice layers of attack when they would come at us. I think all over the field we played very well. Our passing game was good, I liked the pace and speed at which we played.”
The Gators will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Loomis Chaffee School.
