Mianus River Fish Ladder Volunteer Training

fishway-open-house-2
In previous years, those who stopped by the Fish Ladder open house got a chance to see the fish that utilize the ladder. Here, children help Conservation staff Sarah Nahabedian place an alewife back into the fish ladder.

The Town is looking to expand its current volunteer base and monitoring program at the Mianus Pond Fish Ladder. As part of this effort, all interested residents are invited to attend a workshop/informational meeting. Participants in the workshop will learn about the history of the fishway, the fishes that utilize it, how it is operated, and the duties volunteers are expected to perform. No prior knowledge of fish passage is needed to attend. Local residents, fishing groups, watershed associations, and town employees are encouraged to attend.

Volunteer Training is Wednesday, March 11th, 6:30-8:30 pm in the Hayton Room (3rd floor in Town Hall).

There is no fee for this program – pre-registration is required so we can have appropriate numbers of handouts, etc.

To register or for more information contact Sarah Coccaro, Conservation Resource Manager, at 203-622-6461 or sarah.coccaro@greenwichct.org
