Metropolitan Opera Radio Host Mary Jo Heath will talk about her work in opera, on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. at Round Hill Community Church.

Heath hosts the Met’s Sirius XM satellite channel, live streams, and some 80 live broadcasts a season. She previously worked for nine seasons as a senior producer of their radio broadcasts. Her experience with the Met broadcasts began more than three decades ago with a part-time radio job while earning her Ph.D. in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. “I was at the public station in Rochester, at WXXI, and they hired three part-time weekend Eastman students,” she recalled “And I said, ‘You know what? I’ll take the Saturday afternoon shift, because I always listen to the opera anyway — and I might as well be the one person in town that’s getting paid to do it!’”

The event is free and will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. Round Hill Community Church is located at 395 Round Hill Rd. For more information, call 203-869-1091 or visit roundhillcommunitychurch.org
