Bruce Museum Science Lecture: From Molecules to Mass Extinction

February 7, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

On Tuesday February 7th from 6:30-8:00pm Dr. Jessica Whiteside, Associate Professor, National Oceanography Centre Southampton, University of Southampton, will present a talk in conjunction with the exhibition Last Days of Pangea: In the Footsteps of Dinosaurs.
“People often think of fossils as the remains of hard parts, such as bones, shells, and wood,” Dr. Whiteside remarked. “I will discuss how we can use another type of fossil, tiny organic molecules preserved in the rock record, to reconstruct the causes and effects of major mass extinctions and other sudden climate change events in Earth’s past. These past events have important clues for understanding the future of our warming world.”
Light refreshments and open galleries at 6:30 pm, lecture at 7:00 pm.
Members free, non-members $15. Reservations suggested; call 203-413-6757 or email science@brucemuseum.org.
