An Evening with Dr. Hugh Sampson Discussing the Latest in Food Allergies
WHAT:
Food Allergy CT (FACT) and Greenwich Country Day School Parents Association will host Dr. Hugh Sampson to discuss the latest in food allergies on Tuesday, February 7th at 7:00pm. FACT is a Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) recognized support group for families in Connecticut with complicated food allergies. Dr. Sampson is the Kurt Hirschhorn Professor of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is the Director of the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute and the Director and PI of the NIH-sponsored CTSA program, Conduits – the Institutes for Translational Sciences at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Sampson’s research interests have focused on food allergic disorders, and now include work on the pathogenesis of food-induced anaphylaxis, characterization of allergenic food proteins and their processing by the immune system, genetics of food allergy, development of novel diagnostic tests, and mechanisms of immunotherapeutic strategies for treating food allergies. Dr. Sampson supervises one clinic/week in pediatric allergy and is involved in teaching fellows and residents.
WHEN:
Tuesday, February 7th at 7:00pm
WHERE:
Greenwich Country Day School
401 Old Church Road
Greenwich, CT 06830
WHY:
Food allergies are a serious and growing public health issue. Researchers estimate that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies. This life-altering and potentially life-threatening disease affects 1 in 13 children in the United States. There is no cure for food allergy, and with nearly 40 percent of children with food allergies having already experienced a severe or life-threatening reaction, the need for improved treatment, increased education and public policy that promotes safety and inclusion is urgent.
