Retired Men's Association: Thomas Byrne

August 24, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Free

The Retired Men’s Association of Greenwich invites you to attend it’s meeting as Thomas Byrne, the moderator of the Greenwich RTM, plans to share his thoughts on issues facing Greenwich today.
The Greenwich Representative Town Meeting is the Town legislative body. It has final approval of all Town spending, appoints members of the various Town Boards and Commissions, approves all transactions involving Town property, and adopts ordinances. With 230 members, it is one of the largest legislatures in the country. Tom Byrne, current RTM Moderator, will discuss the history of the RTM and debunk some oft-repeated myths about the RTM. He will explain how residents can become members, how the RTM organizes itself and educates its members about the matters to come before it, and he will talk about some of the current issues being dealt with by the RTM. Mr. Byrne will also offer his perspective on the question whether the size of the RTM contributes to having good government in Town.
