Sacred Heart Greenwich photography teacher Kev Filmore was recognized as an outstanding arts educator by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers for her role in nurturing the success of this year’s winners of the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
The Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7-12. A record-breaking 320,000 works of art and writing were submitted for adjudication at the regional level in the Awards’ 29 categories, which include poetry, photography, sculpture, humor, editorial cartoons, video game design and more.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers presented Ms. Filmore with a medal and certificate that honored her as “an outstanding educator whose dedication, commitment, and guidance are represented by student work selected for national honors.”
“Kev Filmore is an amazing photography teacher who inspires her students to create works of beauty and insight that reflect the world that surrounds them,” said Jayne Collins, Upper School head. “Kev is an outstanding mentor and advocate for her students. ”
“I am very proud of the students’ work and appreciate the recognition,” said Ms. Filmore, who has taught photography at Sacred Heart Greenwich for 16 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of the Arts. In addition, she received professional certification for extended studies from the Maine Media Workshops (2001-2014), Westchester Community College’s Peekskill Media Center (1995-2011), and the Women’s Studio Workshop (2010).
