On a lighter note, Peter also sent us this a few days ago:
Hi Beth,
Here is a fun fact: I am a “Leapling,” born on February 29. I only get a birthday every 4 years.
Mathematically, Greenwich has only 43 Leapling residents 1/1461) but the actual number is less because some parents schedule births to avoid February 29.
Greenwich Leaplings don’t get a birthday this year. We only get a birthday in Presidential election years.
Leaplings got a birthday in 2000 but won’t get a birthday in 2100, even though that is a Presidential election year. There is no February 29 in century years not divisible by 400. So those Greenwich Leaplings around in 2100 will go 8 years without a birthday!
My goal is to make it to 2044, so I can celebrate my 24th birthday in the same year as my middle granddaughter, born in 2020. She is now 5 1/2.
Only children under age 6, seniors over age 90, and Leaplings celebrate half-birthdays. This year I will be 19 1/2.
