Greenwich Hospital has again earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
“At Greenwich Hospital, patient safety is our top priority and the foundation of every interaction, decision and care plan,” said Robert Blenderman, PA, president of Greenwich Hospital. “I’m proud to recognize our dedicated team for their exceptional performance and unwavering commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care. Their collaboration and focus continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients.”
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication and excellence of our entire team at Greenwich Hospital,” said Karen Santucci, MD, chief medical officer. “As a high reliability organization, we are committed to consistently delivering safe, efficient and high-quality care. This achievement reflects our unwavering focus on patient safety and clinical excellence.”
Greenwich Hospital earned “A” grades in the Spring of 2025 and the Spring and Fall of 2023, as well as Fall 2022. Westerly Hospital, also part of Yale New Haven Health, also earned an “A” grade for the Fall 2025 report.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade rates the safety of general hospitals in the United States. The grade is based on over 30 measures, including the number of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the hospital‘s systems to prevent them. The program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Greenwich Hospital made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers who all had a role to play in this achievement.”
