Neighbors Helping Neighbors in a Time of Need

Since 1975, Neighbor to Neighbor has served as a vital source of food and essential items for individuals and families in Greenwich facing hardship. As the community’s only food pantry, the organization’s mission has never been more critical.

The recent interruption of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, effective Saturday, November 1, along with upcoming changes in eligibility beginning December 1, presents new challenges for residents already struggling to make ends meet.

According to the Connecticut Department of Social Services, 1,535 Greenwich residents currently depend on SNAP benefits. Nationwide, more than 40 million Americans — including homebound seniors, working families, and children — will lose access to vital federal food assistance. These reductions will have a profound impact on households already facing economic insecurity.

Greenwich has long demonstrated a strong spirit of compassion and community. Neighbor to Neighbor acknowledges and deeply appreciates the many residents and organizations who have reached out to offer their support during this time of need. The organization emphasizes that, together, the community can ensure that no one in Greenwich goes hungry.

Neighbor to Neighbor encourages individuals, businesses, and organizations to take action in several ways:

  • Make a Monetary Donation: Contributions made through www.ntngreenwich.org go directly toward feeding local residents in need.

  • Host a Food Drive: Collect non-perishable items such as cereal, canned soups, pasta, and canned proteins (beans, tuna, etc.) through families, neighborhoods, businesses, or houses of worship.

  • Participate in a Virtual Food Drive: Through an online platform, donors can purchase specific food items that are held at a local market until needed, ensuring fresh produce is available for individuals and families.

  • Volunteer: Assist with stocking shelves, sorting donations, and checking expiration dates. Those interested can contact Devi Bridgemohan at dbridgemohan@ntngreenwich.org or call 203-622-9208 to schedule a two-hour shift.

  • Advocate: Residents are encouraged to reach out to their elected officials to support state and federal relief efforts for families in need.

“Together, we can ensure that no one in our community goes hungry,” said a Neighbor to Neighbor representative.
