Letter: Joe Pellegrino: Why I am Running for the BET

In a word: Blessed.

I am blessed that my grandfather who immigrated from Rose, Italy, chose Greenwich to make his home. I am blessed that my father chose to have his own business in town and share what it means to work hard and treat your customers like you would want to be treated. I am blessed to have wide-ranging family relationships throughout the town. And I am especially blessed to have made Greenwich my home, and in doing so, meet and befriend so many wonderful people.

Greenwich is a very special place. It has natural beauty, a plethora of social organizations that create a rich cultural environment, and above all else, it has deep communal roots.

People care. They care about their families, their friends, and the community at large. Wherever I go throughout town, I feel a connection with the people I meet. We may come from different backgrounds, different cultural and religious affiliations, and be in a different stage of life. But the common thread I experience is the love my fellow citizens have for their community.

Running for the BET is my way of giving back. I want to contribute to the health, prosperity, and safety of our community. I want to support what is in the best interest of our citizens. I believe I can do that best, and for the largest number of families, by serving on the BET.

I believe in the leadership that our First Selectman, Fred Camillo, has shown over the past six years. I want to contribute to his vision for our Town going forward. I want to see us continue to attract young families who want to raise their children here. I want to keep Greenwich affordable for our senior citizens. And most of all, I want to keep Greenwich the financial envy of every town in our great nation.

I like taking on challenging tasks. In the days and months ahead, the BET will have to address many challenging issues. I believe I can make a difference in how those issues are resolved.

If my message resonates with you, I ask that you vote for me and my fellow Republican colleagues on Row B in the upcoming general election.  Thank you for the opportunity to give back for all my blessings.

Joe Pellegrino
