On September 9th, Republican voters will have the opportunity to select six candidates to serve on the Board of Estimate and Taxation. Early voting will run from September 2nd through September 7th at Town Hall. Twelve Republicans are offering their time and energy for this important work. The BET role is demanding, timeconsuming, and without compensation, and every candidate deserves respect for their willingness to serve.
As Chairman of the Board of Education, I was unanimously elected by my colleagues, regardless of party affiliation. In that position I worked closely with the BET to establish operating budget guidelines that were both honest and practical, avoiding public controversy and creating trust between the BET and BOE. I also oversaw the Cardinal Stadium project, which was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, and I currently serve on the Central Middle School building committee, where we remain under budget and on schedule. In addition, I chair District 2 on the RTM and serve on the Education and Labor Contract Committees.
Professional experience also matters. As CEO of a midsize company and former senior executive in financial brokerage, I have overseen hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions and developed the skills necessary to manage large budgets with care. I am offering that same discipline and accountability to the people of Greenwich.
During this campaign, I have been disappointed to see six of the twelve Republican candidates resort to personal attacks. Ronald Reagan’s eleventh commandment reminds us: “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republicans.” Respectful collaboration, not infighting, produces the results Greenwich residents deserve.
One of our Greenwich neighbor’s, Ray Dalio, recently observed, “People on social media often ask me why I don’t run for political office. The reality is that going into public service in our current environment scares the daylights out of me. I have so much appreciation and respect for those who make that sacrifice. But we’re now in a climate where everybody fights over every decision to tear our leaders down, no matter how capable they may be.” His words ring true. Greenwich does not benefit when internal disputes overshadow responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds.
I ask for your support in this primary. Alongside me, I recommend Sally Bednar, Joshua Brown, Harry Fisher, Joe Pellegrino, and Leslie Tarkington. These individuals bring strong character, professional expertise, and a proven record of public service. They share a commitment to civility, respect, and fiscal responsibility. They will focus on serving the community, not on tearing down fellow Republicans.
This election will shape how Greenwich manages its finances and plans for its future. I hope you will join me in supporting candidates who will work with colleagues across the BET to strengthen our community.
