The Chambers Players of the Greenwich Symphony conclude their 52nd season with a pair of concerts titled “Music From Armenia” on Sunday, April 7, 3pm at Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Rd, Greenwich, and Monday, April 8, 7:30pm at Greenwich Arts Council, 299 Greenwich Avenue, 2nd Floor Recital Hall (elevator is available).
The Chamber Players welcome Ara Dinkjian on oud, and Arsen Petrosyan on duduk for a concert featuring Armenian composers. Ara Dinkjian is considered one of the finest oud players in the world, with an emphasis on a uniquely beautiful tone. The oud is a traditional, lute-type stringed instrument.
Arsen Petrosyan has recently emerged as one of his generation’s main proponents of the Armenian duduk and will be traveling from Armenia to Greenwich to be featured in these concerts. The duduk is a double-reed instrument with ancient origins, having existed since at least the fifth century. Some Armenian scholars believe it existed more than 1,500 years before that.
The musicians joining the performance of these concerts are violinist Sami Merdinian, violinist Annamae Goldstein, violist David Creswell, and cellist Daniel Miller. The program, as well as program notes, are listed at https://www.chamberplayersofthegso.org/april
Complimentary “Wine and Cheese” receptions are after the Sunday concert, and during intermission of the Monday performance, offering an opportunity to chat with the chamber musicians and friends.
Concert tickets are $35 for adults, $5 for students, and are available via the Chamber Players website, www.chamberplayersofthegso.com, by phone 203-637-4725, or at the door.
