My name is Joe Solari and after being endorsed at the caucuses last month I am now running for reelection in the primary election for membership in the Greenwich Republican Town Committee (RTC) which will be held on March 5th. I have lived in Greenwich over two decades and I am deeply involved in our party, serving as an RTC member on the executive committee for District 8 (Cos Cob) as well as representing Greenwich and the 36th Senate district for the Connecticut State Central GOP.
Unfortunately, several of our current and former Republican elected officials appear at odds with the current RTC leadership despite a “Row B” sweep last November which included victories by the First Selectman (Fred Camillo), Selectman (Lauren Rabin) and the Board of Estimation and Taxation (BET) and they and their surrogates have taken their grievances to the press.
Sadly, this only serves to undermine Republicans and gives the impression that they believe that by attacking the RTC leadership it will help them and their preferred candidates win in the Republican primary election.
Whereas, many of us believe that these electoral victories were inspired by the RTC diligently championing and safeguarding Republican principles, achieving record fundraising, and driving voter turnout, some Republicans seem to be convinced that sounding and governing like Democrats is the key to winning and governing in Greenwich. Accordingly, they reject the RTC’s public advocacy of Republican principles, including holding elected officials accountable.
True, our Greenwich Republican Town Committee does not confine its activities exclusively to electing Republicans for office which some have stated should be its sole purpose. We also volunteer in our community, advocate for our principles, hold officials accountable, and identify and support candidates who share our values.
We uphold our Founders’ values: liberty, economic opportunity, preserving American traditions, and ensuring the American dream for all. We stand for low property taxes, prudent spending, and top notch education, local control, individual freedom and protecting the character of our town. We are committed to ensuring that Greenwich never follows the path of increasingly urbanized towns, with far greater density, far higher taxes, and far left cultural mores.
All of us are fortunate to live in a wonderful, vibrant community — and Greenwich Republicans will always strive to keep it that way. To do so, many of us believe that appeasement is not a winning strategy and that we must remain steadfast in championing Republican principles and protecting Greenwich from Hartford, especially with the Democratic Party, across the state and nationally, and our own Democrat Town Committee, moving further and further left.
On March 5th, voters will have the chance to make their votes count. I hope every voter understands the track record, motivation, and strength of character of each candidate and votes accordingly.
