Tick Testing
While cases of Lyme Disease in humans occur during the spring and early summer months, one species of tick – the adult blacklegged tick known as a “deer tick” – is most active from late October through May. The Greenwich Department of Health Laboratory is offering tick testing. If a tick is found on a person, it should be removed carefully with a long nose tweezer and be placed in a tightly sealed plastic bag with the date and body site of the bite written on the bag. Tick testing costs $68.00 and includes identifying the bacterium that causes Lyme disease and the protozoan organism that causes Babesiosis. Results are typically available within 7-10 days. The Greenwich Department of Health Lab can be reached at 203-622-7843.
POLICE AND FIRE
Another Scam Alert
The Greenwich Police Department has been receiving reports that Town of Greenwich residents are receiving a letter stating they won the Best-Way Sweepstakes ($947,000.000.00). This letter states that an advance check was sent for you to cover the “outstanding fees.” These letters are scams and should be thrown away immediately.
Drug Take Back Day
The GPD unused drug take back day last weekend collected several hundred pounds of unused prescription drugs which have already been destroyed. If you were unable to make the drop-off day, GPD has an unused Rx bin at their Headquarters where residents can drop off their unused prescription drugs any time.
Appointment of Three Master Police Officers
Congratulations to Officers Christopher Sanborn, Christian Rosario, and Kaitlin Ciarleglio on completing their probationary period with the Greenwich Police Department. All three have now officially been appointed to the position of Master Police Officer (MPO). Supervisors in the Patrol and Detective Division lean heavily on the MPO in many ways, such as expecting the MPO to serve as a lead officer in the absence of a first-line supervisor. MPOs provide guidance and direction to coworkers, are expected to conduct more technically difficult investigations, and assist with crime scene processing.
