Sophia’s Grand Reopening in Cos Cob
After running her shop off of Greenwich Ave for 40 years, Sophia Scarpelli has moved to Cos Cob. Sophia held her grand reopening this past Thursday at her new space at 428 East Putnam Avenue Cos Cob.

Sound Beach Avenue Officially Closed
Sound Beach Avenue Bridge is now closed until July 7th. This closing will allow for a project to replace a deteriorating bridge used by over 14,500 vehicles daily. The vehicular detour will route via Harding Rd. and Forest Ave. and pedestrians will go through Binney Park. Visit the Town’s website to learn more about this project.

Double Rainbow

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is a chance to honor Public Safety Dispatchers’ service to the community. Public Safety Dispatchers are the first emergency responders who take 911 calls. The Public Safety Communications Center dispatches for all emergency service calls in Greenwich. The Town of Greenwich Public Safety Dispatch team is made up of three lead dispatchers and 13 public safety dispatchers. Greenwich’s Public Safety Dispatch team answers an average of over 40,000 calls each year.

Greenwich Firefighters Train Trench Rescues
This week Greenwich Firefighters have been training trench rescues. All of the professional firefighters in Greenwich are Trench Rescue Technicians. This past week, they have been doing their annual refresher training.

8-30g Fourth Ward Updates
Tuesday’s P&Z hearing regarding the 8-30g affordable housing proposal for the historic Fourth Ward drew more than 140 people for an almost four-hour discussion. Very few public comments were in favor of the development proposal.

Dan Warzoha to be Awarded Posthumously
Dan Warzoha will be honored posthumously with the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company’s 8th annual David N. Theis Award. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 27, at Tamarack Country Club. The David N. Theis Award is given to Greenwich residents who selflessly and compassionately serve the town’s people, organizations, and institutions.

Car vs Bus
At around 1:00pm on April 12th there was a vehicle collision on Glenville Road in front of the Wells Fargo Bank. There were 32 children and 3 teachers on the school bus and no one on the bus was injured. The driver of the car sustained minor injuries.

North Mianus Pow Wow
On Friday, April 29 the 74th annual Pow Wow returns. After a two year pause for COVID-19, the Pow Wow returns as the first carnival of the 2022 season. For the first time in the carnival’s history, it will run for three days.

Like Like Luke 3rd Annual Beach Cleanup Set for End of April
On Saturday, April 30 at 11:00am until 3:00pm at Tod’s Point Greenwich Residents are encouraged to come together to remove the winter’s trash. Many Greenwich environmental organizations have partnered with Live Like Luke for this event. Luke Meyers was a GHS student activist who was dedicated to making improvements for the betterment of our community and our environment and lost his battle with cancer in 2019.

2 GHS Seniors Take the Next Steps in Athletics
Greenwich High School held its third athletic signing day event this past Wednesday, April 13th where two GHS seniors officially signed their National Letters of Intent furthering their athletic careers. Landon Cartwright will play soccer at Providence College, and David Ponce will swim at SUNY Binghamton.

Riverside Celebrates Earth Day
Riverside school spent this entire week celebrating Earth Day. Each day of the week, students participated in an eco-friendly themed activity. Earth Week concluded April 14 with students attending different learning stations about environmental impacts.

Greenwich P&Z Holds Public Workshop on Approved Signage
This past Thursday, April 14th, Greenwich P&Z held a public workshop to inform and keep residents up-to-date regarding signage, outdoor lighting, and awnings in Greenwich.

Boys & Girls Club Names 2022 Youth of the Year
Paige Pray, a GHS senior, was named 2022 Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich Youth of the Year. Established in 1969, the Youth of the Year Award was created to recognize B&GC members who give back to their club and the community; display leadership, service, and academic excellence; and dedication to a healthy lifestyle.

State Pulls Back on Plan to Refurbish I-95
First Selectman Fred Camillo announced last Thursday, April 7th that the state DOT has withdrawn its plan to refurbish the I-95 corridor from Exit 2 to Exit 6. The DOT had announced previously that the $205 million project would start this fall, lasting at least three years. First Selectman Fred Camillo had been working with several Greenwich organizations including ​​Stop95Noise.org, the Riverside Association and the Byram Neighborhood Association to present information to Governor Lamont regarding a need for more comprehensive planning to mitigate highway noise.

City Nature Challenge
Residents of Fairfield and Westchester counties have been asked to get outside to make and share observations of plants and animals from April 29 until May 2 as part of a global bioblitz called City Nature Challenge. The Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk has organized Fairfield and Westchester counties’ teams for this event. City Nature Challenge is a four-day event, pitting metro areas in a contest to make the most observations, find the most species, and engage the most people. Greenwich Resident Announces Candidacy for CT’s 4th Congressional District
Former New York County Medical Society President and longtime Fairfield county resident Michael T. Goldstien,M.D., J.D. has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for 4th congressional district in CT.

Fairfield Resident Joins Wadsworth Museum of Art Board of Trustees
Fairfield County Resident Lily de Jongh Downing has joined Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art Board of Trustees, bringing vast experience in gallery management to the museum. The Wadsworth, located in Hartford, is the oldest public art museum in the United States, having opened its doors to the public in 1844.

Second Greenwich Resident Announces Campaign for CT State Treasurer
Greenwich resident Dita Bhargava has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector. Bhargava received a B.A. in electrical engineering from McMaster University in Canada. Bhargava announced her bid for CT State Treasurer earlier this week.
